Confidence and You Podcast - Skip Bowman's Blog

I had great session with Helen Luxford on her podcast Confidence in You.

Skip shares with us how he manages a busy business, being a husband and dad to 5 kids (3 under 3!) and at the same time he and his wife are renovating a hotel in France, so it’s safe to say he’s good at juggling a busy life. He is an Aussie-born entrepreneur who moved to Europe and is now one of Europe’s leading experts on putting Growth Mindset and Psychological Safety to work in leadership, teams and organisations.

Today he shares with us the importance of having great relationships in your life and how to ask for help and lean on others when things aren’t going to plan is so very important. Surrounding yourself with your tribe and being there when they need you and them being there for you when you need them is so important in leading yourself and others.

Skip talks about in volatile times of climate crisis, global pandemics, and disruptive technologies, leaders may find themselves clinging to fear-based mindsets that favor individualism over collectivism – inadvertently controlling their teams rather than inspiring genuine commitment in them. He says the key to the future is leaders being open to letting go of control, and he shares how most of the control is with white middle-aged men, who don’t want to let it go.

But to navigate uncertainty and seize emerging opportunities, leaders must move toward a more facilitative, enabling approach that centres on purpose before profit and the team before the individual.

In Skip’s book “Safe to Great” he outlines an integrated organizational and leadership development process for implementing a growth mindset based on psychological safety. Grounded in more than 25 years of experience working with global organizations, Bowman’s model unites theory and practice in a set of practicable principles designed to meet the opportunities and challenges of leading and organizing in the twenty-first century and beyond.

So if you want to know more about that, pre-order the book now to secure your hard copy at www.skip-bowman.com – it’s currently available for preorder on Amazon.

He believes relationships are key in life and for leading yourself and others. In his relational model, success rests on the combined achievements and developmental growth of the collective.
